Aletek is proud to sponsor the ‘Amazing Shake’ which helps young students develop valuable life skills.

This week Burnett Heads State School students in Grade 4-6 went through ten rigorous one-minute challenges. Students were assessed on each activity, and the Top 24 students were selected. At this point, they each sat opposite an adult and were required to create genuine conversation for one minute. After each conversation, they moved round and repeated this process until they spoke with all 24 adults. Each adult assessed the student on criteria including engagement, content, ability to listen, and appearance.

I didn’t realise the impact this would have on the children, watching the effort and engagement from them was awesome. On one hand, the extraverts owned the day, but for me, the shy children were the winners.

This group was reduced to the Top Ten and attended the Bundaberg Regional Council yesterday where they witnessed a Council Meeting. After the meeting the Councillors let the children take their seats to debate active Council topics with the Councillors scoring each child. Tomorrow the Top 5 are off to ABC radio where they are participating in live radio and interviewing people live on air.
